Download the .dmg

Grab the latest release from GitHub Releases.

Drag to Applications

Open the .dmg and drag Just Talk into your Applications folder.

First launch — bypass Gatekeeper

Right-click the app and select Open (required once for unsigned apps). The Setup Wizard walks you through granting microphone and accessibility permissions.

Add your API key & go

Enter a Groq API key (free) for cloud STT and LLM cleanup. Or download the whisper.cpp model for fully offline use. Press Ctrl+Enter to start dictating.

Does my audio data leave my computer?

In local mode with whisper.cpp: never. All transcription runs entirely on your Mac. If you use Groq cloud, audio is sent to Groq for processing — but your API key is encrypted locally on your Mac, never stored in plaintext files.

Which languages are supported?

Both Groq Whisper and whisper.cpp support 90+ languages. The LLM cleanup layer auto-detects language, so you can dictate in English, Mandarin, Spanish, and more without switching settings.

Does it work in password fields?

just-talk detects secure input fields (like password boxes) via macOS accessibility APIs and automatically switches to clipboard-only mode — no text is injected via keystroke simulation.

Can I use it completely offline?

Yes. whisper.cpp handles transcription locally on your Mac with no internet required. LLM text cleanup needs Groq cloud, but you can skip it and use raw transcription for a fully offline experience.

What are "backtrack commands"?
